This morning as we hurried to the car I noticed something creeping in the road. See, it was just like any other Sunday morning - I was hightailing and running five minutes behind while Eli was going through life like he had fifteen minutes to spare. But we took a few minutes to notice this creeping creature - A Turtle! A real live turtle! Eli wanted to keep him. I said Negative. But I offered my next best thing - a photo that we can print out and he can have forever - so I ran back inside for my camera, pulled the car up next to said turtle, and snapped a few photos. And I hear from the backseat And I Shall Call Him Turdy.

I laugh. Out loud. And then tell him I'm not quite sure that's the best name in the world as I think about him announcing to his Sunday school class that he has a new turtle named Turdy. Even if I know where the name stems from - a toy lizard? Lizzie. A toy dolphin? Dolphiny. Toy duck? Duckie. So of course the turtle would be Turdy, right?
Thank goodness we aren't in the market for a new pet. And yes we had the discussion of why "Turdy" and "Turd the Turtle" aren't great names for a pet turtle. After he learned about why it's an ugly word? He thought it was a little bit funny in that way a nearly five year old thinks the words "underwear" and "hiney" are hilarious. +085.jpg)

"Turdy" was gone when we got back home - either our neighbor picked him up or he found his way back to the creek. So he shall live forever in the above photo. Except I think we'll change his name to something more G-rated - like Mr. Turtle.
