Time For Bed

Last night David & I had plans to share the evening ~ I had the first half & he would take the bath and bedtime routine. I had all these thoughts of how I would have to shut and lock our bedroom door to be able to work on the laptop. Eli would stay awake until 11 p.m. as he always does and maybe - just maybe - I'd be in bed before 10 since David Was On Duty!

Alas. The Monkey was a big fat STINKER and went to bed at 8:30 p.m. For the first time in like ever. Shocking to the point I came in the living room with my mouth hanging open at 8:45 saying "um David he's asleep" to which David knowingly replied "I know"

Tonight? Totally different story. Because as I sit typing this? He is standing next to me. I'm ignoring him, as I do not wish to lose my ever loving mind at the fact I have been trying UNSUCCESSFULLY for two hours to get him to sleep.

David's at the hospital visiting Kayla who broke her leg (hope she feels better soon!!) so I'm flying solo. He's already called and informed me what I should do: Shannon you have to put him in his bed and tell him to close his eyes and say his prayer. You give him a kiss and tell him goodnight then make sure to tell him to go to sleep and do not get down.

I have performed this ritual three times already. I've done countless Go To Bed Eli's along with simply pointing to his room which he knows means business to no avail.

And yet here he stands, having already brought me twelve toys which remain deposited on my bed. He's singing the Life is a Highway song from the movie Cars as he pushes two cars. He's worked with all the tools from his toolbox. And he's now pulling all the items from his cart. Surely he can't stay awake all night, right?
